During the week of 2-7 October, I was participating at the CeBIT Eurasia İstanbul fair on behalf of my partner companies BiometriCS and TürkTrust. Overall we had a great time, meeting new people, acquiring new business opportunities, and of course checking out the new technologies.

The fair went great from a business and a contributor point of view. However, I was not very impressed as an end user. When talking to the organizers, it was revealed to us that this was intentional, and that the fair was heading more towards the path of a professional business fair, rather than an end user fair.

Pity really, since the CeBIT in Hannover is widely regarded as being excellent in both aspects.

I’m an electronics engineer designing embedded systems. What is an embedded system? It is a computer system dedicated for only one or a few specific tasks. It can be a device controlling your washing machine, or your car’s brakes, or it could be a cell-phone, pager, stereo etc..

Why am I telling you all this? Becuase we are starting a new part-time project to increase Turkish documentation on embedded systems. We feel that Turkish documentation on the subject is weak, non-existent, and with a combined effort, can result in a very useful repository for other rookie engineers.
