Transformers, The Movie has finally arrived at cinemas worldwide. My youth has passed with Transformers toys, Transformers cartoons, Transformers comics, etc… So I was thrilled to see them once again, in brilliant CG with live action characters. There was no way that movie was not going to impress me!
Needless to say, the movie is great, the effects and the transformers are done really well. You don’t get to see a lot of action or transformation during the first half, but it still is worth it to hear Optimus Prime, who is being voice acted by the original Peter Cullen. They included the line from the first animated movie: “One shall stand, one shall fall” which began the all time epic battle between Prime and Megatron.
I have installed ubuntu Edgy last weekend and am now working with Linux at home. I also tried our Beryl to see what it was all about. Here is an impressive video that shows what Linux can do for those who really like eyecandy!
(MaxOS X has nothing on this!)
This is a great video dedicated to the 1-4 Turkish victory last Saturday in Athens. While there are tonnes of videos in Youtube which advocate flamewars, swearing and hate speech between the two societies, this one is a proof that friendly competition can be so much more civilized and effective. The Syrtaki music at the background fits in especially well because as you may know, its distinct characteristic is that it starts slow and picks up pace… Just like the Turkish team did in the game!
Let me tell you a bit more about what I actually “do”.
I’m an electronics engineer designing embedded systems. What is an embedded system? It is a computer system dedicated for only one or a few specific tasks. It can be a device controlling your washing machine, or your car’s brakes, or it could be a cell-phone, pager, stereo etc..
A more detailed explanation can be found on wikipedia.
Why am I telling you all this? Becuase we are starting a new part-time project to increase Turkish documentation on embedded systems. We feel that Turkish documentation on the subject is weak, non-existent, and with a combined effort, can result in a very useful repository for other rookie engineers. If you fell like contributing to the project, visit http://www.embeddedtr.com/.
You may have noticed (if you are viewing the page from Turkey and have TTNet as an ISP or DNS prvider) that the video towards the bottom of this page does not show. This is due to some court in İstanbul finding youtube guilty because they were hosting a video with content insulting Atatürk.
I do not know how this can be called “justice” but the courts have once again made a fool of themselves. The presence of the video will be ignored by the society who is offended and therefore justice is done! Great, so if we removed all news about murders, terrorists etc, we can happily live on because they will all have been punished!
An application to youtube would have resulted in the removal of the contents in question. When will we ever learn?
Edit: Two days after this post, the courts have lifted the ban on youtube claiming that the video was removed. (it was removed BEFORE the ban was actually placed)
